This Alabama Company Garners National Attention
Alabama innovators continue to walk the walk at Fast Company’s Innovation Festival in New York. Chief among them is Acclinate, an Alabama-founded company that is making waves both in the state and on the national level. Acclinate is a Birmingham-based company, co-founded by Tiffany Whitlow and Del Smith, PhD, that is working to strengthen connections with communities of color to increase diversity in clinical trials. On Wednesday, Acclinate was recognized as a 2024 Fast Company Best Workplace for Innovators. Acclinate is a testament to the fact that Alabama is uniquely positioned to promote thriving, innovative business.
ACCLINATE: DRIVEN BY PURPOSE
Whitlow often tells a story that brings Acclinate’s mission into focus. When her son was diagnosed with asthma, he was hospitalized and prescribed albuterol. Crucially, the drug is less effective in 47 percent of African Americans. Inclusive clinical trials help to bring these facts to the forefront, leading to equitable health care outcomes. Acclinate lives this mission out on a daily basis, breaking down barriers to representation for communities of color in clinical trials, which is of utmost importance for delivering top quality health care to all communities.
INNOVATE ALABAMA’S INVESTMENT FOR SUCCESS
As a participant of the inaugural Economic Development Partnership of Alabama’s Investor Connector event and a beneficiary of Innovate Alabama’s Tax Credit Program, Acclinate has long been on the scene as a mover and shaker in the state’s innovation ecosystem.
Whitlow shared, “It’s an incredible honor to be recognized on a national stage like Fast Company’s Innovation Festival. While growing Acclinate, I’ve spent time all across Alabama, from our vibrant cities to our smaller communities, and I’m proud to call this state home.
