Studio Mission & Model
The Innovate Alabama Venture Studio works alongside corporate partners to identify high-potential ideas and accelerate them into venture-backable companies. With hands-on operational support, mentorship, and funding, we help new ventures move from concept to market faster and with less risk.
Our partnership with Harmony Venture Labs (HVL) brings a proven studio model to Alabama. HVL, led by Shegun Otulana, has successfully built startups across diverse sectors, driving early traction, product-market fit and investor interest. Their disciplined approach to ideation, prototyping and scaling ensures every spinout is positioned for success in competitive markets.
Why This Model Matters for Alabama
Corporate partners are central to our approach, helping us tackle real-world problems while accelerating commercialization. By combining corporate insights with operational support, the Alabama startup ecosystem is strengthened by creating a pipeline of scalable, locally-rooted startups.
Our goal is to launch at least 10 venture-backable companies over the next three years. These spinouts are expected to attract follow-on investment, creating a stronger pipeline of startups and increasing the flow of venture capital into Alabama.

The Innovate Alabama Venture Studio Fund works hand-in-hand with the studio to provide capital to portfolio company spinouts.
This integrated approach ensures that promising companies can secure funding, attract top talent and scale faster, keeping innovation and economic growth in Alabama.
